Why a tampon?

Because it's the object nobody talks about out loud, let alone decorates. Turning it into something you make with your hands — something silly, something pretty — takes the awkwardness out of the room before the conversation even starts. This one's designed to work whether it's a first period or a thirtieth year of them.
